I also have my apple crisp recipe ready to be posted! It's my first recipe post and I am excited!
I know everyone probably has their own recipe for apple crisp, it may be different than mine, similar, or even the exact same one, but I thought it was appropriate for the time of the year and maybe it will inspire you to go make it yourself :) On another note, I honestly have no idea where I got this recipe from. I have been using it for a long time and it works out perfectly everytime!
Laura’s Apple Crisp
FILLING:
5 to 6 good-sized apples, peeled, cored, and cut into about ¼-inch slices.
6 tbsp granulated sugar
2 ½ tsp cinnamon
Juice of a lemon (optional, but prevents the apples from browning)
TOPPING:
1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/3 cups lightly packed brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 stick butter, softened
1/3 heaping cup oats
Preheat the over to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Generously grease a large baking pan with butter. Place the apples in a bowl, toss with the lemon juice (again optional). Place a layer of apple slices in the bottom of the pan.
Combine the cinnamon and sugar for the filling, and dust the first layer of apples with the mixture. Continue layering apples and dusting with cinnamon/sugar until done. The apples should be just about to the top of the pan (they will cook down!)
For the topping: place flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and oats in large bowl and stir it up good! Work the butter in with your fingertips until it’s evenly distributed. It will be sort of dough-like. Spread the topping evenly over the apples.
Bake the dish on a baking sheet on the center rack of the oven until the topping is crunchy and the sides are bubbling! (About 55 minutes)
Serve hot and topped with Vanilla Ice Cream!
THIS is what it should look like! :)
(okay this is not MY picture of apple crisp, I will admit that the pictures I took did not do it any justice, so I decided I shouldn't post it and need to take a class on food photography!)
I hope you find this easy and delicious! When I made it, I did not have a good peeler and I WISH I had one of those things that cores and slices the apples! Those two items seem like good investments for the kitchen. Especially during my favorite time of the year. It took me a while to prep, but it was my fault! I kept cutting the apples without peeling them (idiot!) I guess you could keep the skins on if you like them! They do get tender when you cook them but I prefer them off. I'm STILL one of those who tends to not like the skins on things, or even the crust and I am NOT ASHAMED to admit that! :) (okay this is not MY picture of apple crisp, I will admit that the pictures I took did not do it any justice, so I decided I shouldn't post it and need to take a class on food photography!)
Enjoy the recipe and I HOPE you go and make it soon!
