Book Review... sort of..

February 27, 2010
I just started reading a book called The Red Tent by Anita Diaman. Have any of you read it? I have had this book for years and years, and when I was probably around 13 or 14 I tried reading it, but I don't think I understood any of it. Now that I am in my twenties, I figured I'd give it another shot. I also have a really good friend and aunt who said it was an amazing book. I started reading last night around 10pm and I couldn't put it down. I read about 100 pages.
This book is a first-person narrative which tells the story of Dinah(Dee-na), daughter of Jacob and sister of Joseph, a talented midwife and proto-feminist. The title refers to the tent in which women of Jacob's tribe must, according to the ancient law, take refuge while menstruating or giving birth, and in which they find mutual support and encouragement from their mothers, sisters and aunts.

Now that does sound a little intimidating, it's a strong topic, but I think as a female reader you can really relate to some or if not most of the feelings and emotions from the female characters in the book.

So far I think it's a wonderful tale and I will probably fininsh it within the next two days!

On another note, it's my mother's birthday on monday. Today my sister and I gave her a nice salon visit and tomorrow I am making a few different kinds of pizza (bertucci's style!) Thin crust Pizza is her favorite!

One pizza that I know I am going to make is Spinach Artichoke pizza! I love artichokes and so does she.

I read that book during my first year of college, and it was AMAZING. It's one of those books that you will think about for a long time afterwards. I rarely re-read a book, but this is one that I might consider for a re-read, now that it's been over 10 years since I read it.

Good luck with the pizza party and give your mom a b-day hug and kiss for me!

If you use the red sauce recipe I posted earlier for your pizzas, you will not be disappointed.

I think it's amazing so far! I'm already almost done, and in between reading I find myself thinking about it. The pizza party was good! I'll let send her your love.
I didn't make the sauce my dad had already made one, but next time I am making that one for sure! I am really picky about the sauce, hopefully this one will win my heart!
