Quiche!

April 11, 2010
So I made this awesome quiche for dinner. It's really simple, I think that anyone could make it.
The ingredients are endless, so use your own judgment.
Examples to help you out: broccoli, asparagus, goat cheese, bacon, salami, Gruyère cheese, cheddar cheese, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, kale, mushrooms, etc. You get the picture!.. you can make this with whatever your heart desires!

For this particular dish I used Ham (leftover from easter) spinach, onion, and Havarti Cheese!
The combination of those 4 ingredients were scrumptious and the Havarti is a very mild and buttery tasting! Half the work is done for you by buying store bought pie crust, so those of you coming home from work, or those coming home from class.. this is perfect!

1 store bought pie crust shell (it usually comes with two crusts, so double the recipe or use it for something else!)
1/2  medium onion chopped
1 cup of chopped spinach
1 cup - 1 1/2 cups of diced ham
2 garlic cloves finely chopped
4 tbs of butter or substitute with olive oil
5 eggs
1 cup of Havarti cheese (I found a small block in the deli section for 2.99)
*reserve 1/4 a cup of cheese to sprinkle on top
1 cup of cream or half and half
salt and pepper to season

Take the pie crust out of the fridge and let it sit while you prep.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
In a sauté pan, melt butter and add garlic and onions. Season with salt and pepper to taste, I used about a teaspoon each.
After the onions become opaque, add spinach.

Meanwhile, in a greased pie pan, (I bought a cheap foil one for easy use and clean up)
lay out your pie shell and gently press to fit pan.

In a separate bowl, whisk the 5 eggs together with half and half or cream.
Grate about 3/4 a cup of Havarti cheese into the egg mix. Add a little more salt and pepper to taste.

Spread ham into the shell, and add the spinach mixture. Add the egg & cheese mix and let set for about 30 seconds.

Put the quiche into the oven.
After 15 minutes, sprinkle remaining cheese onto the quiche. If the pie crust edges are browning quickly, cover them with strips of tinfoil to prevent burning.
Finish cooking for another 20 - 30 minutes, or until the top is beginning to brown.
^pics taken with an iphone so they aren't that great!

I am not a huge egg lover, but when eggs are cooked right and the right ingredients are added, I love them! I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!
